Cultural food

On Cultural Day, I made a dish from the Philippines called turon. Turon is a beloved sweet snack or dessert made with a banana sliced lengthwise, wrapped in a lumpia wrapper, and coated with melted brown sugar. The part that didn’t go well was when I was cooking the first two turons—one of the lumpia wrappers split. After that, I learned that I needed to move them around in the pan so they wouldn’t stick. Once I finished cooking my dish, I ate the first two turons, and they tasted really good.

Term 3 Burgers

This term, we have been focusing on making different types of burgers. So far, we’ve made four different types of burgers. In Week 2, we made a scone burger, which tasted amazing. In Week 3, we made a flatbread burger, but unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try it because I had football at that time. In Week 4, we prepared a chicken burger and my teammate made a delicious sauce and that made the burger even better. In Week 5, we made a lamb burger, which was also amazing the sauce made it even better.

Term 2 Cooking

This term, we are focusing on making different kinds of snacks. As part of our learning, we’ve also been exploring what makes a snack healthy and how it can help our bodies stay strong and full of energy.

So far, we’ve made three snacks. In Week 1, we made muesli bars using ingredients like oats, nuts, and dried fruits, which are great for energy. In Week 2, we created a healthy snack platter made with fruits and vegetables, and we gave it to the teachers. In Week 4, we made cheese rolls, which were simple but delicious, and provided us with a good source of energy.

It’s been fun experimenting with different snacks and learning what’s good for us.

What’s your favourite  snack to eat at home?

What makes a snack healthy or unhealthy?

A healthy snack is made from natural, whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, or yogurt. These snacks give your body important nutrients like fiber, protein, and healthy fats, which help you feel full and energized. On the other hand, unhealthy snacks are often high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats, and they don’t provide much nutrition. Choosing healthy snacks most of the time can improve your energy, help you stay strong, and support your overall health.

Week 8 Pizza

This week, we worked on making our pizzas better, and the results were great. Last week’s pizza was a little too oily, which affected the taste. This time, the balance was much better, and the flavors stood out great. The crust was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the toppings were just right. The pizza tasted amazing and was a big improvement. The only small issue was that the crust was a bit burned, but overall, it was a big step forward in making the perfect pizza.

Term 1 Pizzas

This term, we’ve been learning how to make different kinds of pizza. In the first week, we started by making pizza sauce. After that, we made a small pizza using just one slice of bread. In the second week, we made homemade dough and used it to bake our own pizzas.

In the third week, our teacher bought pre-made dough from New World so we could compare it to the homemade one and decide which was better. I wasn’t a fan of doing the dishes, so we all agreed that Haven would be the one to do them.

The worst part for me was when one of the pizzas turned out way too oily, and the oil leaked into my bag. In week four, we made a pizza using flatbread, and so far, that one has been my favorite. It was both sweet and flavorful, which made it really delicious.
